Soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mayonnaise, ketchup, baked beans – they're all items you'd expect to find in your pantry.

But, in the UK, they're all unexpected flavours of ice-cream you can try at a pop-up store in London.

The Ice Cream Project boasts a variety of hand-made ice-creams and sorbets designed to celebrate designer Anya Hindmarch's favourite cult food brands, including savoury sauces, condiments, tea, breakfast cereals and even baked beans.

"Making 'everyday things in an extraordinary way' has always been a passion of mine and is the reason why I love to play with iconic brands," Hindmarch says of the experiment.

"The Ice Cream Project sets out to challenge perceptions, working with the most sophisticated ingredients and recipes in an artful way."

It's generating so much buzz on TikTok and Instagram that people are travelling from other parts of the UK just to try the concoctions they've seen on social media.

In the recent heatwaves, staff tell 9Honey people have been queuing as long as two hours, as a constant stream of people come into shopfront, located in London's Belgravia.

"Coco pops and Frosties are the best sellers, quickly followed by Soy Sauce and Baked Beans," a spokesperson said.

When 9Honey popped by for a visit, the Baked Beans and Ketchup flavours were sold out to taste and tubs of Coco Pops were all taken from the freezer.

The ice-creams are made in Devon, in the UK's south west, and available for £3.50 ($6.05) per scoop or in 500ml tubs for £10 ($17.25).

The pop-up opened on July 9 and runs through till August 28 but its popularity is sure to see it return to the capital next summer.

I tried the mayonnaise, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce flavours from the condiments section of the menu, along with the rolled oats, Frosties and Coco Pops from the cereal selection.

Unsurprisingly, the cereal varieties all lent themselves nicely to ice-cream flavours. Think about leaving your Frosties soaked in milk and then freezing it – that's what it tasted like.

The texture of the rolled oats and the soft crunchiness of them was a nice surprise and an unexpected taste win.

The soy sauce was not to my taste, but for anyone who enjoys a bit of salted caramel, this might be one for you.

Similarly, the Worcestershire sauce was too savoury to enjoy as a sorbet for me and has a real kick to it in the after-taste.

While I expected mayonnaise to be similar to those two, I found it surprisingly refreshing and more akin to vanilla ice-cream.
