They are a super easy meal that you can quickly whip up any weeknight, or you can present a fun gyro bar for guests, where everyone gets to add toppings to their hearts content.

If you’ve never made gyros at home, these steak filled pockets are the perfect start…

Our love of Greek food runs deep. From famous dishes like Moussaka and Keftedes Meatballs, to lesser know regional dishes like Fasolada Soup and Shrimp Saganaki, we just can’t get enough of their tasty cuisine.

In the west, perhaps the most well known Greek dish is gyros, a popular street food in their home country.

The gyro meat we all know and love from restaurants and street vendors, carved off of a huge skewered chunk, may seem intimidating to make at home. This recipe will give you amazing gyro flavors, without making your own gyro meat.

TIP: Fresh is best, try our easy homemade Tzatziki recipe!

First, thinly slice your steak into 2 inch strips. Mix with all of the marinade ingredients in a bowl and marinate at least 30 minutes. If marinating longer, cover the bowl with cling wrap and keep in the refrigerator.

While the steak is marinating, chop the veggies and crumble the feta.

Heat oil in a skillet over medium high heat. Once hot, add the steak strips and sear 5-6 minutes.

TIP: If making a large portion, cook the meat in batches, so it does not crowd the pan. Otherwise, it will steam, rather than sear.

Warm the pitas briefly on both sides on a hot skillet, or in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.

Now all that’s left is to assemble your gyros!

In individual pitas, add a generous dollop of tzatziki, then load it up with steak, veggies and feta. Enjoy!

Store the different components in separate sealed container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days (except the pitas, which are stored at room temperature).

When ready to enjoy again, simply reheat the steak in the microwave, or on stovetop, before assembling your next gyro.

Make it a Greek night, and impress your family and friends with these fun and delicious steak gyros. They are surely a super addicting meal that you will come back to many, many times.
